Proctimise down at the farm…

In our last post we talked about minimising our impact on the planet.

Now it’s time for us to walk the walk… in wellies.

As part of our commitment to 1% for the planet, team Proctimise headed to Spitalfields City Farm to live our values and get stuck in.

walking the walk…

As away days go, this might not have been at the top of everyone’s wish list, but you know what they say: A team who shovels together sticks together - or at least they stink together.

Spitalfields City Farm is a charity nestled in the heart of buzzing Tower Hamlets and built upon the east end tradition of backyard farming. Like us they’re small but ambitious and determined to make a difference to their immediate community, as well as the planet.

Our day began with an early cuppa, before getting up close and personal with some of the farm’s residents, including Holmes, the farm’s incredibly friendly pig. We were then shown to our day’s activities. Not petting lambs or cuddling chicks as we’d hoped. Instead, we were greeted by a colossal pile of… exactly what you’re imagining. We could go into detail, it turns out there’s a knack to cleaning up animal excrement, but don’t worry we’ll spare you. Suffice to say it was hard, hot, back-breaking work – but surprisingly fun.

Managing Partner, Gordi commented:

“As a team it was such a good feeling for us to be in one place together, helping out, sharing stories and having a laugh whilst jumping on the muck heap! It was also such a joy to be amongst the animals (Derek the donkey was my favourite) so we’ll be back with the kids soon, as Spitalfields City Farm are so welcoming and have invited us to see them again. Being part of 1% has helped us come together and make some real positive changes. I can’t wait to see where it takes us next.”

We finished the day off with some more hard labor, sanding down a café, and a new ferret house. Leaving the farm we may have felt exhausted and more than a little disheveled, but we also felt part of the community in our corner of the capital, rather than just commuting through it.

Stay tuned as we continue our support of 1% for the planet: https://www.onepercentfortheplanet.org/
